We’re continually inspired by individuals who defy categorization, striving to reach their fullest potential. One such individual is Laura Karasinski, who founded Atelier Karasinski in 2012 and transformed it into a renowned design studio. Her journey is a testament to relentless passion and creativity. Laura’s remarkable growth recently earned her a place in Architectural Digest’s prestigious AD100, recognizing her as a top talent in interior design.

We visited Laura in her Vienna apartment to discuss her views on growth, her relationship with nature, and her sources of inspiration. Every corner of her eclectic sanctuary reflects her discerning eye, adorned with vintage furniture, family heirlooms, treasures from her travels, and a unique collection of plants. Laura’s dedication to quality craftsmanship and storytelling through design makes her a constantly growing inspiration.

What is growth for you?

Growth, for me, is the constant pursuit of learning and evolving. It’s about challenging oneself to step out of comfort zones and embracing new experiences, whether in personal life or professional endeavors. It means expanding one’s interests, skills, perspectives, and understanding, continuously seeking improvement and innovation in everything we do.

What keeps you grounded?

Staying grounded comes from maintaining a close connection with myself and the people who matter most to me, who provide a strong foundation. Additionally, engaging in everyday routines and simple pleasures, like enjoying my morning coffee or spending time in nature, helps keep me centered amidst the busy pace of my professional life.

How do you connect with nature?

I connect with nature by walking my dog Mimi and I make a conscious effort to spend time outdoors, whether it’s visiting parks, going for walks with friends, visiting my family in the Polish forest or incorporating greenery into my living and working spaces. Nature is a profound source of tranquility for me.

What is a book that has inspired you?

Amongst many, the works of Yung Pueblo with their profound reflections and “food for thought” have been deeply inspiring. Additionally, all books of Deborah Levy have left a significant impact on me. Their unique narrative styles and insightful explorations of the human experience provide continuous introspection and creativity in my own work to stay authentic and true to oneself.

What is your favorite plant?

My favorite plant is the Monstera Deliciosa. I love its large, distinctive leaves and how it brings a touch of the jungle to any interior space. It’s a beautiful reminder of nature’s intricate designs and adds a lush, vibrant feel to my studio and home.
